ISBA Presentation

Thomas R. Ackmann, managing director of Baden Retirement Plan Services, co-presented "IRAs/Qualified Plans/Income Tax Issues & Planning Strategies" with attorneys Vicki L. Anderson of Hackman Hulett & Cracraft LLP, and Beth W. McIntire of National Bank of Indianapolis. The presentation took place in Indianpolis on October 2, 2008.

Fund Central for BRPS Clients

Fund Central is now available to Plan Sponsors and Plan Participants who are clients of BRPS with website login capability. Fund Central allows the viewing and printing of fund performance, fund prospectus information, and fund sheets for all the funds available in a particular plan.

Baden Ranks in Top Industry Ratings

August 22, 2008-Fort Wayne, IN--The 401kExchange announced in its 2008 Mid-Year Provider Ratings that Baden Retirement Plan Services was rated number one for recordkeeping and administrative services in the micro market (companies with under $1 million in assets in a qualified retirement plan) and number three for plan administrator/recordkeeper in the small market (companies with $1 million to $10 million in assets in a qualified retirement plan). Other firms to achieve top rankings included nationally recognized insurance companies, investment providers and third party administrators (TPAs). According to Fred Barstein, President of the 401kExchange, independent TPA firms, such as Baden Retirement Plan Services, "offer a viable alternative to advisors looking for completely open investment platforms, greater fee disclosure and lower costs."

415 Amendments for Plan Documents

During the second half of 2008, employers that sponsor qualified retirement plans have started receiving amendment packages from their plan document providers. The reason for this is that the final Internal Revenue Code (IRC) §415 regulations must be incorporated into retirement plan documents by the due date of the employer's tax return (including extensions) for the year in which the change is effective.

403(b) Myths

Some 403(b) plans sponsors are considering terminating their plans and/or switching to a 401(k) plan because of the new Internal Revenue Service requirements for 403(b)plans. But, sponsors need to realize that they still need to comply with the new regulations even if they terminate their plan or switch to a 401(k).
