Some Form 5500 extension requests have recently been mistakenly rejected by the IRS. This article describes the experience of a TPA who filed Form 5558 Extension Requests on behalf of its clients, according to the IRS's instructions, only to have the IRS reject the requests and start imposing penalties on the clients.
