Plan sponsors working with a retirement plan team comprised of a financial advisor and an independent third party administrator (TPA), such as Baden Retirement Plan Services, have the benefit of flexibility as it relates to their choice of financial product, both when a plan is first implemented, and throughout the life of the plan. This flexibility can help the plan sponsor meet not only fiduciary obligations, but also employee needs.
A TPA will work with a plan sponsor, a financial advisor, and the financial product provider to design the best possible solution for a plan’s participants at the time the plan is implemented. As a plan matures, different factors can sometimes come into play that might cause the plan sponsor to change the retirement plan product that has worked very well for a number of years. Should this situation occur, the flexibility of being able to switch products allows the plan to benefit from the retention of the members of the team that are familiar with the plan. In most cases, the financial advisor and TPA can service any number of available retirement plan product options. Changing a financial product does not have to dictate the loss of the current financial advisor and TPA. This allows the relationships that have formed over the years to continue to benefit the plan and its employees. When there needs to be a change, it is nice to keep some things the same.
